We are already experiencing high temperatures, and it's only April 2025, with yesterday reaching 30 degrees. While this is great for us to enjoy, it's not so beneficial for your plants and lawns.
Timing is Key to a Healthy Garden
Although it's tempting to head out into your garden and water all your plants or turn on the sprinklers in the heat of the sun, as it's pleasant to be in the garden when it's hot, the truth is that this is one of the worst times to water your garden.
Although it's tempting to head out into your garden and water all your plants or turn on the sprinklers in the heat of the sun, as it's pleasant to be in the garden when it's hot, the truth is that this is one of the worst times to water your garden.

When is the Best Time to Water?
When it comes to watering, which includes feeding your plants or lawns, timing is crucial. Monitor the weather and plan according to your needs, opting for early in the morning before work or late at night when the sun is at its lowest, and things are starting to cool down.
Watering during the peak sun can scorch the leaves of your plants and lawns, while also losing a significant amount of moisture to evaporation. Imagine using a magnifying glass on the tender foliage and leaves of your plants; this is what happens when water droplets heat up under direct sunlight, causing scorch and burns, plus you're losing valuable moisture through evaporation.
How Often Should I Water My Plants and Lawns?
In this weather, I would recommend watering every day for a healthy lawn and plants especially if its a newly installed landscape.
This might not be possible for everyone due to work commitments or other reasons, so we suggest considering an irrigation system or a basic timer and sprinkler system that allows you flexibility. If you need this installed, please get in touch, and we will be happy to assist.
I suggest watering often, regardless of the temperature, as your garden will benefit from hydration during the hot summer days. You'll notice the positive impact on your lawn and plants almost immediately. Water your plants in the evening, and you'll witness a transformed display by morning.
Ways to Stay on Top of Watering
If you enjoy getting out in the morning and the evening, that's great, as you already know what to do. However, if you're short on time and away often, here are some great ideas to ensure you return to a lush, vibrant garden.
Install an Outdoor Tap
This may be obvious, but having access to an outdoor tap is crucial. It allows you to reach areas with ease and simplifies the task if your schedule is already busy.
Drip Feed Irrigation
If you have a summer display or hanging baskets, a drip feed irrigation system would be a great start. This is a simple, cost-effective way to ensure your baskets and planters are watered efficiently every day.
Invest in a Timer
If you're like most people who are away often or want to enjoy your garden rather than spend a lot of time working in it, a timer could be your best option. These can range from basic budget timers to Bluetooth and rain sensors that can detect rain and switch off and on, or you can use your phone to control them. The options are endless.
But if you prefer to keep it simple, set a specific number of days and times, and you're good to go. These can be connected to a sprinkler system, pop-up sprinklers, or a standard hose lock type sprinkler for your lawn or borders.
For the plants, you can opt for a porous pipe that slowly trickles consistent droplets of water, or you can choose individual miniature sprinkler heads that provide a considerable amount of pressure.

Make your neighbours envious
The key to a vibrant garden and lawn is nutrient release and water! Many people underestimate the importance of watering their garden. Stay consistent with this, and you'll have a luscious garden in no time.
