The Tropical Zen Garden

We had the pleasure of creating this zen garden for one of our amazing clients who envisioned her trips to Thailand and wanted to bring home a sense of Thailand while creating a tranquil space to relax and enjoy with Buddhist themes.

We designed a garden that incorporated plants capable of tolerating deep shade, partial shade, and sun, with most of the borders being shaded for most of the day due to large trees overhanging the backline of the garden.

Choosing plants that look and feel tropical while being sustainable outdoors wasn't too difficult, as most deep shade plants tend to have broad leaves that maximize moisture retention with glossy surfaces.

Adding colour was the trickiest part, but we managed with a variety of summer and winter planting schemes to inject colour into elements of symmetry, with the focal points being mature Trachycarpus fortunei in bespoke pots and large handmade custom Buddhas in the centre of the borders.

We loved working on this project, and adding lighting created another layer to the garden at night with ambient colours combining zen in the garden and truly highlighting the architectural plants.
